Random Acts of Kindness – Family

Continuing on our series of ‘Random Acts of Kindness’, today’s focus will be on the Family and we challenge you to go out and make a positive impact on someone’s life today. Here are just a few ideas to get you thinking:

  1. Connect with loved ones afar:

We all have that family member that we do not talk to as much as we ought to. Life can get busy and distance may be a barrier, but that does not mean we should forget to contact them. Intentionally block out specific time slots in your busy schedule and make the effort to contact them.

A 30 seconds video recording to say hello, a phone call or text, or write a simple postcard. Just make sure you do something to check in on them.

  1. Spend time with them:

Life is happening right now. Do not let precious moments pass you by because you did not make the effort. Go and spend some quality time with someone you have not seen in a while and take along a small token of appreciation.

One of the biggest regrets many people have is not spending enough time with their loved ones. So do something that matters to someone that matters. They will appreciate it.

  1. Clean up:

Spend some time cleaning up after yourself. Put those socks away, tidy up your room, vacuum the carpet, or help with some household chores. Give a family member a break by doing something they will appreciate.

  1. Make it happen:

If you have a family member that has a specific need i.e. needs a babysitter for a couple of hours in the day, step in and be that helping hand.

Sometimes the best gifts do not have to cost much. This small act of kindness can make a world of difference to them and will be something they will not forget.

  1. Thank them:

Far too often we forget just how much someone has done for us and his or her acts often go unappreciated. Take a few minutes out of your day to reflect upon those people and surprise them by doing something they will appreciate. It can be something as simple as sending a thank you card.

There are many things you can do for your family or loved ones and these acts should not be a one-off occurrence, but making a lifestyle out of giving back can be one of the most fulfilling things one can do.
